More workers hired in Metro Manila

Employment condition in Metro Manila is getting better with commercial establishments hiring more workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported today. Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said a DOLE-initiated survey, involving 600 firms in Metro Manila indicated employment growth of 2.86 percent in the second quarter of the year.


Rosalinda Baldoz Statement :

“This means that employment of these enterprises increased by about 29 workers per 1,000 employed, as 135 workers per 1,000 employed were hired while 107 workers per 1,000 employed were terminated or quit their jobs.”

“This was a notable improvement from first quarter result when accession rate of 10.23 percent fell slightly behind separation rate of 11.11 percent resulting in turnover rate of -0.88 percent."

Baldoz noted that DOLE undertakes a quarterly sample survey of enterprises in Metro Manila in an effort to to capture “job creations” and “job displacements” in large business enterprises in the region.
